Frequently asked questions
The most common questions about installation, licensing, updates and payment.
General
What is bipanel?
A hosting control panel with two panels. Account owners manage their sites, databases, email and apps in the user panel; you manage the server, accounts, packages and resellers in the admin panel.
How is it different from traditional hosting panels?
Licenses are priced per server, so the bill doesn't climb with every account; Node.js, Next.js and Python apps work without add-ons; the same panel runs on a server, in Docker and on Railway; and updates arrive signed and roll back if something breaks. A few things, such as spam filtering and multi-server clusters, are still on our roadmap, and we list them openly on the Why bipanel page.
Can I move my sites from another panel?
Yes. Import full account backups (cpmove format) from the admin panel → Backups; files, databases and domains move into the new account. Mailboxes move over on server installs.
Which languages do you support?
bipanel's user and admin panels are in English and Turkish, and each user picks their own language. The website, customer portal, invoices and emails are bilingual too.
Technical
Which operating systems are supported?
Server installs run on Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 24.04 and Debian 12 (Debian 13 without the mail server). We recommend Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with 2 vCPUs and 4 GB of RAM. The Docker install runs on any Linux VPS with Docker Engine 24+.
Can I install it on a server that's already in use?
We don't recommend it. The installer stops if it finds another panel, Nginx or MySQL. Back up your sites, install on a clean server and move them over with cpmove or file backups.
What's missing in Docker and on Railway?
Container mode has no mail server, authoritative DNS server, FTP or SSH. Websites, PHP, MySQL/MariaDB, phpMyAdmin, Node.js/Next.js/Python apps, backups and the rest of the panel all work. The panel shows unavailable tools as disabled, with the reason.
How do updates work?
Every release is signed with our key, and bipanel won't install a file until it has verified its hash and signature. On server installs you update from the admin panel → Updates in one click or automatically, and it rolls back if something goes wrong. In Docker and on Railway you redeploy with the new image.
Where does my data live?
On your server, entirely. bipanel only contacts our server to validate the license and check for updates, sending the server name, bipanel version and account count. Site files, databases and email never leave your server.
Licensing
Can I use it without a license?
Yes. Without a license, bipanel runs in Community mode with all core features for up to 3 hosting accounts. Pick a plan for more accounts, resellers, white label and remote backups.
Will my sites go down if the license expires?
No. Sites, email and apps keep running after a license expires. After a 7-day grace period, only creating new accounts is restricted, and everything returns to normal the moment you renew.
Can I move a license to another server?
Yes. In the customer portal, go to My licenses → the license → remove activation, then enter the same key on the new server. No support ticket needed.
What if your license server is unreachable?
bipanel keeps the last validated license and carries on with it while it can't connect. If it can't reach us for a long time (weeks), the admin panel shows a warning.
Payment and invoices
What currency are prices in? Do they include tax?
Prices are in US dollars (USD) and exclude applicable taxes. Any tax that applies in your country is shown separately at checkout and on the invoice.
How can I pay?
Secure card payment with Stripe (credit or debit). Renewals are charged automatically to your saved card, and you can turn auto-renewal off at any time. We never store your card details; Stripe processes the payment.
How do I turn off auto-renewal?
In the customer portal, go to My licenses → the license → Auto-renewal and switch it off. The license keeps working until the end of the period and your card isn't charged again.
Do you issue invoices?
Yes. Every payment gets an invoice, which you can view under Invoices in the customer portal. To have invoices issued to your company, add your company name and tax ID under Profile → billing details.
Can I get a refund?
If you haven't activated the license at all, we refund the full amount to the card you paid with (through Stripe) within 14 days of your first purchase. See the refund policy for details.
Can I switch from monthly to yearly?
Yes, from your next renewal. Just open a support ticket in the customer portal. Paying yearly gets you about two months free.
